joy and misery
So, this is my first post in this blog, and I’ve decided to use this post to discuss what I’ve thought about the book that we’re reading; Flowers in the Dustbin by James Miller.
Through my reading of this book I have actually learned a lot. It’s weird because I’ve heard of most of the names that Miller talks about, but I’ve never actually known what they’ve done or what songs they’ve sang. In fact today when I was reading today I found out who actually sang the song “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” and I’ve never known that before even though I love that song. I’ve found all of this to be very interesting. Although, I do feel as though Miller is a bit resentful to the music. However, his sarcastic tone does make the writing more enjoyable. Another thing that I found interesting about the music in the early-mid fifties is that basically every song that was recorded that became a hit was almost immediately covered by someone else who tried to make it into their own fit. Because of this it makes it seem as though the artists back then didn’t have enough creativity to write and perform their own music, which I don’t really like. I know that today artists cover songs from back in the 70’s and 80’s but that was like 20 years ago, and not a few months. That’s the only thing that I really don’t like about the artists back in the 50’s.
